Hand scanning - 2 breaches

No floorball or skiing for 4 weeks

av Kenn Løkkegaard

Sunday last weekend I was playing floorball together with my friends (as always on Sundays). We are always giving it all, but are still very careful when it comes to tackling. Unfortunately I wasn’t that lucky this Sunday.

The accident

I took the ball in our defense and began to run as a true mountain runner, which means very fast by the way. Two persons from the other team came from each side trying to take the ball from me. I was so unlucky to step on the blade from one the sticks, and fell very hard to the floor.

I could feel the pain on the right side of the hip and in my two fingers on my right hand. I was pissed! Not that I was tackled, because everything is going so fast, but more pissed because I was afraid of what the consequences were. I took 5 minutes break, and was out playing again for 10 minutes before we ended the training. I could feel a bit pain and soreness in my hand, but I thought the fingers were only sprained.

Hospital – hand scanning

The day after, I went to the hospital to get the hand checked, and was told that I had two small breaches. I was so frustrated. I was just starting on my new training program, and was finally feeling stronger and in progress. I was so afraid of what these breaches could result in. Mountain running, free climbing, and now also skiing have become such a big part of me, that if this accident will result in any form of not being able to do it with 100% strength in my hand/fingers, I don’t know what I will do.

I was using floorball as a social get-together thing, but also as a form of sport to keep me in shape while the season is off. Now, after this accident, I’m thinking of not playing floorball anymore. I will never forgive myself if an accident like this will affect the sport I love the most. Mountain running is just too important to me. Who knows how badly next time will be?

4 weeks off

Hopefully everything is going to be fine, that was what I was told by the doctor. So for now, and 4 weeks ahead I’m running on my treadmill every morning and/or evening, and doing physical training at the local gym (the exercises I can do without hurting my right hand).
